Mebrat Tekle joined the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy in 2019 via the HRSA Scholar Program. Through the program, she was able to complete a rotation with the Bureau of Health Workforce’s National Health Service Corps to better understand the HRSA’s loan repayment programs. Mebrat is currently the program coordinator for the Behavioral Health Care Support Program.

Prior to coming to the HRSA, Mebrat was a Peace Corps volunteer in Uganda and worked as a health educator at a rural health center. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health from George Mason University and a Master of Public Health degree from New York University’s School of Global Public Health.

Mebrat is inspired by the resilience and resourcefulness of rural communities. The highlight of her role as a project officer has been learning about the communities served through the grant and the creative solutions proposed by RCORP grantees to increase access to behavioral health services.
