Joy Nicholas joined FORHP in October through the HRSA Scholar program. Joy received her MPH from Emory University and her undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester. During her time at Emory University, Joy worked as a Graduate Research Assistant, facilitating focus group discussions among African American women to understand how discrimination and implicit bias may contribute to maternal health inequities; she also led a sub-project analyzing clinical assessments of over 500 medical students, using R statistical software to examine racial and ethnic differences in clinical grading. In addition, Joy conducted breastfeeding research at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Joy has experience working with the Black Renaissance Group, a consulting firm offering expertise and solutions dedicated to accelerating growth for Black enterprises as well as experience as a grassroots canvasser assisting with fundraising for Planned Parenthood.
