Fueled by misinformation, fentanyl panic has harmed public health through complicating overdose rescue while rationalizing hyper-punitive criminal laws, wasteful expenditures, and proposals to curtail vital access to pain pharmacotherapy. To assess misinformation about health risk from casual contact with fentanyl, we characterize its diffusion and excess visibility in mainstream and social media.

The Post-Overdose Response (PORT) Toolkit was developed as a resource for North Carolina communities who are interested in creating a post-overdose response team (PORT) in their jurisdiction.

Opioid overdose death rates were reduced in communities where overdose education and nasal naloxone distribution (OEND) was implemented. This study provides observational evidence that by training potential bystanders to prevent, recognize, and respond to opioid overdoses, OEND is an effective intervention.

This breakout session provided insights from project leaders on how to respectfully collaborate with Indigenous communities. Furthermore, we shared the ways that the Community Conversations approach empowers individuals across communities to participate in and to lead change; supports recovery; and lays a foundation for current and future generations to live healthier lives.

Drake Cooper partnered with JBS International, Inc. (JBS) to help grantees increase their capacity and sustainability through campaign marketing materials built to combat community stigma surrounding substance use disorder (SUD) and OUD.

Illuminate Colorado, an RCORP Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) grantee, and partners presented on their Tough as a Mother campaign. Tough as a Mother is a statewide campaign launched in May 2020 and has been working to decrease the stigma around maternal substance use disorder. The Illuminate Colorado Team provided an overview of their campaign and how others can access the shared resources, followed by time for Q&A.

Stigma and bias among community members, health care providers, and even family members toward individuals with substance use disorder negatively affects the care provided to this population. Stigma prevents individuals from seeking treatment and continues to divide them from their families, their communities, and the evidence-based treatments available.

OMNI Institute, in partnership with the JBS RCORP-TA team, created the 2022-2023 RCORP-TA Data Learning Collaborative (LC) for grantees to come together and share knowledge, talk through challenges, and build relationships with one another. This LC will build upon the foundation established in the prior 2022 RCORP-TA Data Learning Collaborative.
