Presenter(s):

  • Tedra L. Cobb, MSEd, President, Tedra L. Cobb & Associates
  • Dean S. Seneca, MPH, MCURP, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Seneca Scientific Solutions+
  • Gloria Baciewicz, MD, Professor, UR Medical Center
  • Michele Lawrence, MBA, MPH, Co-Principal Investigator, UR RCOE

Session Description:

  • Through HRSA funding, the University of Rochester Medicine Recovery Center of Excellence (UR RCOE) aims to reduce the harmful effects of SUD in rural regions around the nation. One of our most broadly disseminated evidence-based practices is Community Conversations on OUD. Hosted by a wide range of local and state agencies, this workshop shared portraits and videos from rural community members affected by OUD to dismantle stigma and to humanize those affected. This year, UR RCOE partnered with Indigenous subject matter experts and Haudenosaunee community members to adapt this program for Indigenous communities.
  • This breakout session provided insights from project leaders on how to respectfully collaborate with Indigenous communities. Furthermore, we shared the ways that the Community Conversations approach empowers individuals across communities to participate in and to lead change; supports recovery; and lays a foundation for current and future generations to live healthier lives.
