RSV 2022 Session 2A: Substance Use Disorder and Stigma (Day 3)

Posted 6/7/2022 (updated 3/27/2024)

Stigma and bias among community members, health care providers, and even family members toward individuals with substance use disorder negatively affects the care provided to this population. Stigma prevents individuals from seeking treatment and continues to divide them from their families, their communities, and the evidence-based treatments available. Education and personal stories of recovery are key components in decreasing stigma. This presentation was designed to spark conversations within communities, treatment facilities, healthcare professionals, and families in the hope of decreasing stigma and improving the care of those with substance use disorders.

Presenter(s):

  • Jennifer Lanzillotta-Rangeley, PhD, CRNA, Assistant Professor, University of Cincinnati College of Nursing
  • Jack Stem, CRNA (Ret.), CDCA, Project Manager, University of Cincinnati College of Nursing
