Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are events of abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction that occur between birth and 17 years of age. Multiple studies established the association between ACEs, risky behaviors, and poor physical and mental health outcomes in childhood and beyond. Rural and minority children often have higher rates of ACEs exposure than their peers.

This session offered a review of the programmatic work of the Foundation for Opioid Response Efforts (FORE), discussed different types of funding opportunities, and then used FORE’s application process as an example of applying for and receiving funding from private foundations.

This session outlined how the Communities of Practice for Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (COP-RCORP) Consortium created a Disparities Impact Statement (DIS) that encompassed four Ohio counties (Ashtabula, Fairfield, Sandusky, and Seneca) and three HRSA grants (two RCORP-Psychostimulant grants and one RCORP-Behavioral Health Support grant).

The John Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health launched the new Tribal Principles website which offers culturally relevant, Indigenous-centered guidance for Tribes to consider when creating spending plans for the use of Tribal opioid settlements. This work complements the broad state/national settlement guidance led at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
