New Website Offers Guidance for Tribes Receiving Tribal Opioid Settlements

Posted 11/6/2023 (updated 3/28/2024)

The John Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health launched the new Tribal Principles website which offers culturally relevant, Indigenous-centered guidance for Tribes to consider when creating spending plans for the use of Tribal opioid settlements. This work complements the broad state/national settlement guidance led at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

The new Tribal Principles website represents over a year of intensive work led by the core Tribal Principles Project Team, including Indigenous researchers at the Center for Indigenous Health and the Seven Directions Indigenous Public Health Institute, University of Washington, with funding from the Bloomberg Overdose Prevention Initiative. The Tribal Principles were created with guidance of a national Indigenous Advisory Committee to ensure diverse viewpoints, cultures, experiences, and areas of expertise are represented in this work, and that the Principles were intentionally created with and for tribal communities.
