The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has created a toolkit for this May's Mental Health Awareness Month. It includes content to help spread awareness, acceptance, and support of mental health, best practices on mental health discussions, and promotional material for awareness.

The University of Rochester Medicine Recovery Center of Excellence provides information on integrating behavioral health into primary care practices as there are many challenges patients face in the health care system. By highlighting the role of the Behavioral Health Care Manager in rural primary care practices, the hope is to increase access to improve outcomes.

Dr. Brooklyn discussed the following topics: the implementation of a Hub and Spoke model can lead to a significant increase in number of people with OUD treated in rural areas by providing resources for small and rural medical and behavioral health practices and a novel program to increase dosing compliance and security through the use of secure medication dispensers and a Smartphone app can increase access to MOUD in rural areas.

The Disparities Impact Statement (DIS) template is a deliverable for this project that you will be required to complete. There was a webinar discussing the DIS for all relevant cohorts on November 15, 2022. This webinar provided RCORP grantees with the tools to complete a disparities impact statement, to support efforts to address populations in rural communities that have historically suffered from poorer health outcomes and health inequities as a part of the prevention, treatment, and recovery of SUD/OUD. We strongly encourage you to review these documents or listen to the recording when it is posted to the RCORP- TA portal at a later date. Last year, the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) launched a resource meant to help local health departments (LHD) prevent or mitigate potentially traumatic events, known as adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). The Suicide, Overdose, and Adverse Childhood Experiences Prevention Capacity Assessment Tool (SPACECAT) allows LHDs to make an internal assessment of their capacity to address and prevent a still-growing public health issue.
