The United States is in the midst of an epidemic of prescription opioid overdoses. The amount of opioids prescribed and sold in the US quadrupled since 1999, but the overall amount of pain reported by Americans hasn’t changed. This epidemic is devastating American lives, families, and communities.

This workshop defined SDOH and discuss how they contributed to successful community engagement in rural communities. Case studies were used to share principles, theories, strategies, and lessons learned from implementing teenage pregnancy, SUD, and HIV/AID prevention projects in rural Georgia counties.

Furthermore, we shared the ways that the Community Conversations approach empowers individuals across communities to participate in and to lead change; supports recovery; and lays a foundation for current and future generations to live healthier lives.
