Sonoran Prevention Works (SPW) shared some of its experiences implementing harm reduction in Cochise County, one of the more rural counties in AZ. SPW provides street-based outreach, testing, and peer support; offers training, education, and technical assistance and TA; and engages in local and state advocacy work.

This session covered how primary prevention efforts fit within each of the various stages of the Continuum of Care Model. Attendees learned how to (1) engage community stakeholders from each of the 12 sectors and (2) evidence-based practices to not only inform, but to reduce stigma and to create open dialogue as it relates to SUD.

This breakout session provided insights from project leaders on how to respectfully collaborate with Indigenous communities. Furthermore, we shared the ways that the Community Conversations approach empowers individuals across communities to participate in and to lead change; supports recovery; and lays a foundation for current and future generations to live healthier lives.
