The Addiction Technology Transfer Center Network Coordinating Office (ATTC NCO) convened the Contingency Management Task Force (CM Task Force) in April 2023 at the request of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The SAMHSA Guidance for Implementation of Contingency Management Training and Technical Assistance was developed by the CM Task Force.

The report Financing Peer Recovery Support: Opportunities to Enhance the Substance Use Disorder Workforce was prepared for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Center for Financing Reform and Innovation (CFRI) and provides background history of the development of Peer Recovery (PR), including an overview of the current landscape of PR Programs. This report also provides a description of the variation in peer recovery rates, supervision, credentialing, and substance use disorder vs mental health.

Clinical experts from the Providers Clinical Support System (PCSS) created the Substance Use Disorder 101 Core Curriculum for Healthcare Professionals. With the addition of two new module topics, the 23 modules in this 2023 curriculum provide an overview of evidence-based practices in the prevention, identification, and treatment of substance use disorders and co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions for a variety of populations.

The John Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health launched the new Tribal Principles website which offers culturally relevant, Indigenous-centered guidance for Tribes to consider when creating spending plans for the use of Tribal opioid settlements. This work complements the broad state/national settlement guidance led at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

While each state faces unique challenges in distributing opioid settlement funding, they also share many common priorities for settlements and other statewide efforts to address the opioid and substance use crisis.
Why it matters: Opioid settlement funding provides a unique opportunity to address current gaps in the addiction care system as a whole.

As suicide has become a major health concern in the United States, September 2023 is recognized as Suicide Prevention Month. The National Institute of Mental Health has put together a digital toolkit for Suicide Prevention Month to raise awareness. Resources are provided for multiple online platforms for the public to share which focus on recognizing the warning signs for suicide and how to get people the help they need.

The FY22 RCORP-Implementation cohort is diverse and dynamic in every way, representing a wide variety of experience and possessing an unending amount of knowledge on SUD in rural areas. This session explored the different methods and practices this cohort uses in its efforts to address SUD prevention, treatment, and recovery. Participants had an opportunity to learn from and to build relationships with one another, which will, in turn strengthen, their RCORP projects. Additionally, they heard from RCORP program staff and the RCORP-Evaluation team about program updates and data utilization tools.
