This study assessed the associations between insurance status and 6-month retention of patients with opioid use disorder on telehealth platforms. Patients whose insurance paid for their care were most likely to still be receiving buprenorphine 6 months after starting treatment. Uninsured patients who paid cash were more likely to be in treatment at 6 months than people with insurance that did not cover their care. Findings showed an association between in-network insurance benefits and retention, which may affect the opioid crisis.

The report Financing Peer Recovery Support: Opportunities to Enhance the Substance Use Disorder Workforce was prepared for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Center for Financing Reform and Innovation (CFRI) and provides background history of the development of Peer Recovery (PR), including an overview of the current landscape of PR Programs. This report also provides a description of the variation in peer recovery rates, supervision, credentialing, and substance use disorder vs mental health.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has published the new resource "Counseling Approaches To Promote Recovery From Problematic Substance Use and Related Issues". This Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) provides guidance to counselors, administrators, and supervisors about recovery-oriented services, supports, and care, allowing them to better serve individuals in or seeking recovery from problematic substance use.

The Recovery-Ready Workplace Toolkit: Guidance and Resources for Private and Public Sector Employers was created through the efforts of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, the Domestic Policy Council, and 12 federal departments and independent agencies. It is designed to help businesses and other employers prevent and respond more effectively to substance misuse among employees, build their workforces through hiring of people in recovery, and develop a recovery-supportive culture.

The John Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health launched the new Tribal Principles website which offers culturally relevant, Indigenous-centered guidance for Tribes to consider when creating spending plans for the use of Tribal opioid settlements. This work complements the broad state/national settlement guidance led at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
