On January 18, 2024, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the Innovation in Behavioral Health (IBH) Model. IBH is focused on improving quality of care and behavioral and physical health outcomes for Medicaid and Medicare populations with moderate to severe mental health conditions and substance use disorder (SUD).

The Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) Cohort I tip sheet is a result of collaborative efforts of the NAS Cohort I grant recipients. Drawing on the insights and experiences of our grantees, we identified 9 key recommendations. These tips serve not only as a guiding framework for future NAS cohort grantees but also offers valuable guidance to all RCORP grant cohorts. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has updated the 2018 document which outlines best practices for implementing and operating recovery housing. Assisting individuals with recovery housing is critical in the journey of recovery and can lead to the improvement of health, reduce overdose risks, and sustain recovery.

Disparities in access to naloxone exist and organizations are working to remove some of these barriers by utilizing innovative methods such as vending machines to distribute the overdose medication. This provides life-saving medication in an accessible way to everyone, although laws vary state to state on the distribution of these tools. More information on naloxone vending machines can be found in these resources by the Bureau of Justice Assistance's (BJA) Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Use Program (COSSUP) and The Network for Public Health Law.
