On January 18, 2024, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the Innovation in Behavioral Health (IBH) Model. IBH is focused on improving quality of care and behavioral and physical health outcomes for Medicaid and Medicare populations with moderate to severe mental health conditions and substance use disorder (SUD).

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has compiled a Harm Reduction Framework document that will inform the agency's activities, policies, programs, and practices. The University of Rochester Medicine Recovery Center of Excellence provides information on integrating behavioral health into primary care practices as there are many challenges patients face in the health care system. By highlighting the role of the Behavioral Health Care Manager in rural primary care practices, the hope is to increase access to improve outcomes.
