CA Bridge, a program of the Public Health Institute, works to ensure that all people with substance use
disorder receive 24/7 access to high-quality care in every California health system. Addiction treatment
should be part of standard medical practice in the emergency department and inpatient settings in order
to increase treatment access and save lives.

There are systemic barriers in hospital-based addiction medicine that can lead to symptoms of burnout among medical professionals. The qualitative study highlights these factors that may contribute to burnout and provides some feedback on how to work towards minimizing this for providers.
