Fueled by misinformation, fentanyl panic has harmed public health through complicating overdose rescue while rationalizing hyper-punitive criminal laws, wasteful expenditures, and proposals to curtail vital access to pain pharmacotherapy. To assess misinformation about health risk from casual contact with fentanyl, we characterize its diffusion and excess visibility in mainstream and social media.

The IHS forensic healthcare program was established in 2011 to address sexual violence, and has expanded to include intimate partner violence, child sexual abuse, and elder maltreatment. The program trains providers in forensic medical examinations, evidence collection techniques, and in coordinated community response to address violence.

This breakout session provided insights from project leaders on how to respectfully collaborate with Indigenous communities. Furthermore, we shared the ways that the Community Conversations approach empowers individuals across communities to participate in and to lead change; supports recovery; and lays a foundation for current and future generations to live healthier lives.

Tribal communities throughout the United States are often acknowledged as having higher rates of negative health outcomes, including higher rates of overdose and substance use, with little context given to the contributing historical and contemporary factors.
