This technical package provides evidence of the effectiveness of strategies and approaches for supporting successful planning, design, implementation, and sustainability of syringe services programs (SSPs). The information in this document was guided by the vision of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health and lessons learned from a 3-year reentry enhancement project conducted across 3 different reentry organizations. The participating pilot sites were the Resonance Center for Women, Inc., the College and Community Fellowship, and the Institute for Health and Recovery . Using the information compiled through this project, this guide was created by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s GAINS Center for Behavioral Health and Justice Transformation.

The North Carolina Emergency Department (ED) Peer Support Program enables participating North Carolina hospitals to embed certified peer support specialists in their emergency departments to connect patients presenting with opioid overdose to treatment, recovery, resources and harm reduction supports. This guide is a tool for introducing an ED peer support program in a hospital setting.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has published the new resource "Counseling Approaches To Promote Recovery From Problematic Substance Use and Related Issues". This Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) provides guidance to counselors, administrators, and supervisors about recovery-oriented services, supports, and care, allowing them to better serve individuals in or seeking recovery from problematic substance use.
