Pharmacists can play an important role in improving access to medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD), especially for individuals living in rural areas where health care workforce shortages are pervasive. Learn how pharmacists can provide Medication Administration Services (MAS) and establish Collaborative Practice Agreements (CPA) in coordination with one or more treating health care providers.

Participants will be provided an overview on how to appropriately document, code and bill for encounters throughout the SUD/OUD continuum of care following CMS billing rules for FQHCs/RHC. An overview of the opportunities and challenges associated with MAT reimbursement mechanisms including coding and billing for Medicare, managed care, Medicaid, and other third-party payors will also be presented as will a brief description of revenue options for reporting Transitional Care Management, Virtual Communication Services, Telehealth, and other care management services such as Behavioral Health Integration and the Psychiatric Collaborative Care Model.

Telemedicine is increasingly being used to treat patients with opioid use disorder (OUD). It has particular value in rural areas of the United States impacted by the opioid crisis as these areas have a shortage of trained addiction medicine providers. Patient satisfaction significantly impacts positive clinical outcomes in OUD treatment and thus is of great clinical interest.

The telehealth implementation support tool is intended to be completed in around 20 minutes by a jail administrator, who may need input from other stakeholders.
This evidence-based tool involves a self-administered questionnaire coupled with tip sheets on topics related to telehealth readiness, implementation and continuous improvement that stakeholders working with criminal justice partners can use when implementing telehealth for the first time or when expanding their implementation.

This session highlighted the ways in which data from RCORP consortia are used, how service capacity and access have changed, and whether there is evidence that the health status of rural residents is improving. Additional data on telehealth utility, COVID-19 vaccination efforts, and drivers of Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) retention was highlighted.

The Disparities Impact Statement (DIS) template is a deliverable for this project that you will be required to complete. There was a webinar discussing the DIS for all relevant cohorts on November 15, 2022. This webinar provided RCORP grantees with the tools to complete a disparities impact statement, to support efforts to address populations in rural communities that have historically suffered from poorer health outcomes and health inequities as a part of the prevention, treatment, and recovery of SUD/OUD. We strongly encourage you to review these documents or listen to the recording when it is posted to the RCORP- TA portal at a later date.
