This technical package provides evidence of the effectiveness of strategies and approaches for supporting successful planning, design, implementation, and sustainability of syringe services programs (SSPs). Like all professions, the addictions treatment field is faced with the challenges of employee substance use and abuse and their impact on retention of quality staff. Because the addictions field employees a disproportionate number of individuals – by recent estimates close to half of the treatment workforce – in recovery, the field faces particular retention challenges. This toolkit provides meaningful and practical guidance to the problem of substance misuse among addictions professionals.

This Guide on Prevention of Drug Use and Treatment of Drug Use Disorder in Rural Settings was prepared by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Drug Prevention and Health Branch, in the context of the global project Treatnet II: OFID-UNODC Programme to prevent HIV/AIDS through Treatnet Phase II, with the aim of providing an awareness-raising tool and guidance for policymakers, public health officials, local authorities and other stakeholders in dealing with substance use issues in rural settings in their respective countries.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Outlook Handbook has been updated to provide information on community health workers, as well as over 300 profiles covering over 500 community and social service occupations. The new CHW profile reflects the core CHW duties, competencies and training and employment sites. While the profile focuses on CHWs, it also mentions other professions such as peer support specialists, community health representatives, and promotores de salud for the first time.
