Substance use and its progression to impairment, loss of control, and development of substance use disorders is a significant problem for adolescents and young adults. The JBS evaluation team will review and provide guidance on the PIMS measures that are most problematic for grantees and the new PIMS measures that are pending OMB approval. They will also highlight ways that consortiums can use their data dashboards to highlight successes and areas for improvement as they work to obtain funding and motivate and engage stakeholders.

This updated TIP reviews what is known about treating the medical, psychiatric, and SUD-related problems associated with the use of cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as the misuse of prescription stimulants. The TIP offers recommendations on treatment approaches and maximizing treatment engagement and retention, and strategies for initiating and maintaining abstinence.

Researchers used claims and enrollment data from Tennessee’s Medicaid program to develop an algorithm measuring five types of ACEs: maltreatment and peer violence, foster care and family disruption, maternal mental illness, maternal substance use disorder, and abuse of the mother. Recent recommendations from the National Advisory Committee on Rural Health & Human Services included stronger data collection that analyzes rural-urban differences.
