This webinar will provide participants with an understanding of the role of the medical examiners and coroners in the surveillance of drug overdose deaths, as well as the current efforts to strengthen the death investigation system. The data visualization in the National Vital Statistics System, received and processed by the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), shows the 12 month provisional number and percent change of drug overdose deaths. The analysis dashboard also shows the provisional number of drug overdose deaths by drug or drug class.

Allyship includes a set of beliefs, attitudes, and actions; we will explore a variety of steps that can lead to greater empathy and better outcomes for clients, families, and communities.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has published the new resource "Counseling Approaches To Promote Recovery From Problematic Substance Use and Related Issues". This Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) provides guidance to counselors, administrators, and supervisors about recovery-oriented services, supports, and care, allowing them to better serve individuals in or seeking recovery from problematic substance use.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) released results of the 2022 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH). The NSDUH provides information on substance use and mental health rates in the United States with data on the self-reported use of tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drugs; substance use disorders; mental health conditions; and suicidal thoughts and behaviors. SAMSHA also released a high-level brief of the report with infographics.
