The CHARM or “CHildren And Recovering Mothers” Collaborative is a group of providers from in and around Waldo County, Maine, who are serving mothers and families dealing with pregnancy that is affected by substance use.

The consequences for failing to treat OUD within correctional settings are significant. In addition to risk of overdose, most individuals who receive MAT in the community lose access to treatment upon confinement; studies show these individuals experience extreme stress. Individuals with opioid dependence entering correctional facilities are also at high risk for opioid withdrawal syndrome.

This toolkit is intended to give prescribers a broad overview of medication utilization management techniques and describe ways that prescribers can facilitate patient access to needed medications. It focuses on prescribed medications that are filled by retail pharmacies; it does not cover the processes for methadone or specialty pharmacy products, such as injectable or implantable medications, all of which are commonly covered by a patient’s medical benefit rather than their pharmacy benefit.

Developed for the Puerto Rico Department of Health, this toolkit discusses how to screen pregnant women for substance use, screen infants for prenatal exposure to substances, recognize the signs of NAS, utilize validated screening tools, understand the importance of provider education, and engage pregnant women in the process of treatment and referral.

As states seek new tools to meet the needs of individuals with substance use disorder (SUD) and opioid use disorder, federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) offer unique resources and examples for developing integrated and cost-effective health care services for complex and chronic conditions. The National Academy for State Health Policy developed this toolkit to share innovations, resources, and lessons learned from five state teams (AL, IL, SD, VA, and WI) that are working to strengthen the capacity of their FQHCs to deliver SUD care

The National Governors Association and the American Correctional Association recently released a new toolkit on "Expanding Access to Medications for Opioid Use Disorder in Corrections and Community Settings: A Roadmap for States to Reduce Opioid Use Disorder for People in the Justice System."
This roadmap highlights existing state efforts and serves as a policy development tool for Governors and state officials seeking to improve coordination and bolster existing efforts across state agencies to address OUD among people involved in the justice system by expanding access to evidence-based medications. The following are key steps for supporting MOUD in corrections settings.

Opioid use disorder (OUD) is a public health crisis affecting women, men, children, and society.1 Women with OUD have unique care needs and require a broad range of medical, behavioral health, and social services to meet these needs. Care coordination is important to manage the array of services that might be delivered to women in different settings. Without care coordination, women with OUD might struggle to access the services they need to get treatment and maintain recovery.

The National Council for Mental Wellbeing announced a toolkit, Public Safety-led Community-oriented Overdose Prevention Efforts (PS-COPE), which provides framework to use to enhance overdose prevention and response in the Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) communities. The toolkit provides tips, tools, and resources to help integrate this approach into existing overdose prevention and response efforts.
