The four-module implementation toolkit developed by the National Center on Substance Abuse and Child Welfare offers strategies to develop peer support specialist programs for parents affected by substance use—whose children and families are involved with child welfare.

A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine organized and conducted a two-day virtual public workshop that brought together data experts, program implementers and evaluators, and other key interested parties to explore data collection efforts, evidence gaps, and research needs on harm reduction for people who use drugs (PWUD).

This study looks at perinatal care for pregnant people with substance use disorders. Stigma and lack of access to treatment and recovery increases the risk for pregnant people. Results and suggestions from the study include the need to expand OUD treatment training, clarification on child welfare reporting rules, the need to include philanthropic investment, and more.

This publication highlights the Coordinated Opioid Recovery (CORE) Program in three Florida counties. The program integrates a new facet of Emergency Medical Services known as community paramedics. Since its launch in 2022 in Palm Beach County, Florida, CORE has expanded to include 12 additional Florida counties and takes a coordinated approach to recovery for individuals with SUD.

Each resource supplements the SAMHSA Clinical Guidance for Treating Pregnant and Parenting Women with Opioid Use Disorder and Their Infants publication.

The study tested a care coordination model in six rural primary care sites during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, July 2020 to January 2021. Each clinic tracked patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) as they received medication treatment delivered by an external telemedicine provider.

This webinar introduced a systems thinking approach and offers tools to address complex public health challenges. Additionally, the webinar described opportunities for grantees to further develop their capacity to apply systems thinking to a local opioid response.

The CDC report released in September 2022 highlights that more than 80% of pregnancy-related deaths were preventable. Among key findings, the report finds that one of the leading underlying causes of pregnancy-related death includes mental health conditions related to substance use disorder.
