64,000 people died from an overdose in the U.S. in 2016. Fentanyl-related deaths are up 540% in the last 3 years. In 2016 72% of the 1,374 fatal overdoses in NYC involved heroin and/or fentanyl

This presentation covered recovery housing and MOUD in the context of issues emerging in rural America resulting from the pandemic and its impact on the rates of SUD and drug overdose. Also, presenters discussed the impact of the pandemic on corrections and the actions of states in response to COVID as it affects those with SUD. Presenters gave an overview of how recovery housing in this context can be developed especially in rural areas.

This handbook is intended to address this particular set of workplace issues- namely those that arise from experiences of loss, grief and trauma. These issues can surface within the workplace itself, or can be imported into the work setting from workers’ personal lives. This handbook will be useful for managers, supervisors and human resource specialists who are interested in developing their understanding of how the very real issues associated with loss, grief and trauma can be tackled when they show up in work settings. The experience of Jenna Tatro’s substance use disorder and her subsequent overdose death has mobilized Jenna’s family and the Jenna’s Promise team to try and address the gaps in our current national recovery model, culminating in the formation of what aims to be a paradigm-shifting pathway to sustained recovery.
