The study tested a care coordination model in six rural primary care sites during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, July 2020 to January 2021. Each clinic tracked patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) as they received medication treatment delivered by an external telemedicine provider.
Patients Treated With Buprenorphine in Emergency Departments More Likely To Continue After Discharge

In this cohort study of 17,428 Medicaid-enrolled adults with an emergency department encounter for opioid use disorder, the buprenorphine treatment Opioid Hospital Quality Improvement Program (O-HQIP) pathway was associated with significantly increased prescription fills for buprenorphine within 30 days of discharge.

The webinar held by NASTAD on October 26, 2022, 4:00-5:30pm featured a dynamic discussion on integrating harm reduction principles and practices, including naloxone distribution, safe disposal, and harm reduction supply access, within the community health care setting. Health centers across the country that offer these services as part of comprehensive care shared their experiences and the ways that service expansion can contribute to engagement and care access.

The United States overdose crisis continues unabated. Despite efforts to increase capacity for treating opioid use disorder (OUD) in the U.S., how actual treatment receipt compares to need remains unclear. In this cross-sectional study, progress is estimated in addressing the gap between OUD prevalence and OUD treatment receipt at the national and state levels from 2010 to 2019.

This updated TIP reviews what is known about treating the medical, psychiatric, and SUD-related problems associated with the use of cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as the misuse of prescription stimulants. The TIP offers recommendations on treatment approaches and maximizing treatment engagement and retention, and strategies for initiating and maintaining abstinence.

The MOUD Best Practices Webinar series takes a person-centered, outcomes-focused approach to presenting and discussing best practices in the use of medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD), starting with client engagement and initiation of MOUD, patient stabilization and retention in MOUD, and supporting recovery during MOUD. The focus of each presentation in the series will be on the application of best practices to meet your community’s goals for each of the three topic areas, including adapting them to your local resources while maintaining fidelity to their evidence base.
At the conclusion of Session 2 participants will be able to: describe specific best practices related to stabilization and retention in MOUD, connect best practices to the community’s outcomes and goals and adapt best practices to local needs and resources while maintaining fidelity to the evidence base

Buprenorphine/naloxone, an evidence-based treatment for opioid use disorder, is sometimes diverted for non-medical use. In Rhode Island, the prevalence of opioid use and, more recently, of fentanyl in the illicit drug supply is driving overdose fatalities, which increases the need for treatment and raises questions about the changing role of diverted medication in shaping overdose risk.
