Buprenorphine Misinformation and Willingness To Treat Patients With Opioid Use Disorder Among Primary Care-Aligned Health Care Professionals

Posted 2/23/2024 (updated 3/28/2024)

This study assessed the degree in which health care professionals who were practicing within primary care or were likely to come in contact with patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) were endorsing misinformation about buprenorphine and if this affected their willingness to care for patients with OUD. The study used methods that included a study-developed 5-item measure of endorsement of misinformation related to buprenorphine, which assessed beliefs in buprenorphine’s efficacy in managing withdrawal symptoms and reducing overdose deaths as well as beliefs about the role of buprenorphine in achieving remission.
