Drug overdose and misuse continue to plague Southeastern Kentucky and is a leading cause of death in the area. Reducing overdose-related deaths requires focused attention, collaboration, and integrated services. It is equally important to reduce the stigma associated with seeking treatment for addiction, which is accomplished through educating the public and medical providers about the disease of addiction.
Horizon Health has developed the first “Total Campus of Care” treatment facility that provides services to eliminate barriers in seeking and maintaining treatment of addictions. Horizon Health is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Currently we provide the following services on site:
- State-Certified Child Care Center: This center is the first of its kind to be developed and implemented inside our facility in London, Kentucky. Childcare is not a barrier for our clients.
- Employment Services: A relatively new initiative that was created in 2022, this service has helped over 200 clients in securing employment. Each of our sites have an onsite learning lab available to patients and the general community alike.
- State of the Art ADHD Testing: Horizon secured the only FDA-approved software to offer testing in the three-core areas of ADHD onsite at our London facility.
- Targeted Case Management: These services assist clients with food, housing, and clothing.
- In-House Patient Care Coordinator: The coordinator works with clients to coordinate primary and specialized care as needed.
- Transportation Services: This is a new program that is being rolled out to provide transportation to rural clients that lack access to transportation to appointments and care.
- Women’s On Campus Unit IOP: Horizon House is in Williamsburg, Kentucky, and offers an option of living onsite while completing intensive outpatient services.
- Department of Corrections Services: Horizon Health is also a Kentucky Department of Corrections approved provider. We take referrals for clients directly from the court and justice system.
- Counseling: Counseling is a core component of our program.
- Medication-Assisted Therapy: All patients have access to medication-assisted therapy.
- Treatment Planning and Therapy: We provide individualized treatment plans as well as individual and group therapy.
In addition, Horizon Health has some notable certification and official approvals, including:
- Laboratories that are CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment) certified
- CARF accreditation and certification
- NHSC approval, enabling us to offer student loan assistance programs to our employees.
Our RCORP project is multi-dimensional. Our efforts are concentrated on prevention, treatment, recovery, and sustainability. Our program covers the counties of Laurel, Whitley, and Knox counties in rural Southeastern Kentucky. All three contiguous counties are designated as fully rural. Our project includes integration of services with elements of primary care and an expanded patient base. Thanks to RCORP funding we have programs for treating co-occurring disorders and poly stimulant drug use. Our overall goal is to improve behavioral health care service delivery in our targeted rural areas, including targeting specifically substance abuse and mental health disorders by expanding access to these services. Our consortium partners include an FQHC, Grace Health; an RHC, Barbourville Family Health; Knox County Health Department; and Laurel County Health Department.
