Project Summary

We will implement a novel sociobehavioral collaboration between rural emergency departments (ED), medical toxicologists at the Georgia Poison Center (GPC), the Georgia Council For Recovery (previously Georgia Council on Substance Abuse), peer recovery coaches, and Recovery Community Organizations in Georgia to bridge the gap between opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment need in rural EDs and specialty physician availability at the GPC. We will improve the health of individuals in rural areas by expanding access to medication for OUD through an ED- based telemedicine strategy and improving the processes linking patients to resources in the community to allow for reliable outpatient follow-up and care.
