Many people use opioids and are at risk of overdose. Naloxone is an opioid antagonist used to counter the effects of opioid overdose. There is an increased availability of naloxone in New York City; however, many who use opioids decline no-cost naloxone even when offered. Others may have the medication but opt not to carry it and report that they would be reluctant to administer it if they were to witness an overdose.

This webinar will introduce attendees to the infrastructure, implementation, impact and adaptation of Regrounding. Our Response, a statewide effort to address stigma through collective impact underway in Maryland and being adapted in West Virginia. Structured around 5 curriculum areas, each addressing a persistent myth instrumental in upholding stigma related SUD/OUD, the content is delivered within the state at no cost by one of the 25 master presenters trained from across regions and sectors—a process being captured by the Association of State and Territorial Health Officers, who are producing a toolkit that is forthcoming.

The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) convened a Technical Working Group on Resuscitation Training in Naloxone Programs to ensure that overdose programs in New York State (NYS) and elsewhere are afforded the best possible resuscitation protocol guidance tailored to suspected opioid overdoses in diverse settings.

The information in this document was guided by the vision of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health and lessons learned from a 3-year reentry enhancement project conducted across 3 different reentry organizations. The participating pilot sites were the Resonance Center for Women, Inc., the College and Community Fellowship, and the Institute for Health and Recovery .
