JBS’s Robert Childs discussed the key concepts of harm reduction and evidence-based harm reduction interventions that grantees can implement to reduce overdose in their rural communities. Staff from Arkansas Behavioral Health Integration Network shared lessons learned from their RCORP-Planning grant in gaining buy-in for harm reduction concepts and planning for harm reduction services in rural Arkansas.

Examples include health inequity, hybrid workplaces, systemic racism, maternal and child health, and a trained and available workforce. In this session, presenters introduced tools to help you lead, even when solutions are beyond your control. They applied those tools to help you recruit and sustain a workforce for tomorrow.

If you have unused or expired prescription medications, you can locate a safe and convenient disposal drop off location using the U.S Drug Enforcement Association's (DEA) website. The DEA aims to help the public remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.

This presentation highlighted The Health Wagon’s Rural Communities Opioid Response program, Strengthening and Expanding Substance Use Disorder and Opioid Use Disorder Prevention, Treatment and Recovery Programs in Southwest Virginia. The program is a consortium-based implementation that aims to reduce the morbidity and mortality of substance use disorder (SUD), including opioid use disorder (OUD), in rural communities in Southwest Virginia at the highest risk for SUD.
