Recovery Housing, Medications for OUD (MOUD), and Emerging Issues
Presenters will explain recovery housing and MOUD in the context of issues emerging in rural America resulting from the pandemic and its impact on the rates of substance use disorder (SUD) and drug overdose. They will discuss the impact of the pandemic on the correctional system and state actions in response to COVID-19 as it affects those with SUD. They will also give an overview of how recovery housing can be developed, especially in rural areas.

Rural communities are finding innovative ways to combat dual crises: an affordable-housing shortage and the overdose and substance misuse epidemic. This presentation highlighted (1) federally subsidized housing regulations related to affordable housing for residents with a history of SUD and (2) cross-sector approaches to providing housing and support services to residents in recovery.

This session covered multiple aspects of establishing and operating recovery housing in rural America, from planning to funding and through staff hiring, development of policies and procedures, and building program support. Dr. Fletcher and co-presenters will discuss outcomes, the impact on families and individuals, and working with communities to address NIMBY and other concerns.

This webinar will introduce the newest RCORP program cohorts to the RCOEs, Fletcher Group, University of Rochester, and University of Vermont. These three cooperative agreements are charged with supporting the identification, translation, dissemination, and implementation of evidence-based programs and best practices, in addition to providing specialized TA to RCORP recipients and other rural providers.

The Disparities Impact Statement (DIS) template is a deliverable for this project that you will be required to complete. There was a webinar discussing the DIS for all relevant cohorts on November 15, 2022. This webinar provided RCORP grantees with the tools to complete a disparities impact statement, to support efforts to address populations in rural communities that have historically suffered from poorer health outcomes and health inequities as a part of the prevention, treatment, and recovery of SUD/OUD. We strongly encourage you to review these documents or listen to the recording when it is posted to the RCORP- TA portal at a later date. The experience of Jenna Tatro’s substance use disorder and her subsequent overdose death has mobilized Jenna’s family and the Jenna’s Promise team to try and address the gaps in our current national recovery model, culminating in the formation of what aims to be a paradigm-shifting pathway to sustained recovery.
