State policymakers are interested in learning about the most effective treatments to address OUD and avoid unintended consequences such as overdose events, mortality from overdose, and use of illicit and unregulated drugs. The CIWA-Ar assessment for monitoring withdrawal symptoms requires approximately 5 minutes to administer. The maximum score is 67. Patients scoring less than 10 do not usually need additional medication for withdrawal.
