Communities across the U.S. face an array of complex health equity challenges, including meeting the health care needs of people experiencing homelessness, reducing poverty, and improving care for rural populations. Addressing these issues requires robust collaboration and cross-sector data sharing to better understand how community members access health care.

During this session, Dr. Lopata discussed federal/HRSA investments focused on improving the health outcomes for and reducing health disparities among maternal and child health populations. More specifically, Dr. Lopata discussed the multiple programs/interventions funded by HRSA that together work (along with federal, state, regional, and local partners) to improve the prevention, screening, and treatment of opioid use disorder during pregnancy and Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome in the United States.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health have joined with two philanthropic organizations with experience in minority communities – Well-being and Equity (WE) in the World and Well Being In the Nation (WIN) Network – to collaborate on guidelines for what it will take to bring health equity to rural areas.

This workshop will explore the link between Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) of individuals with substance use concerns and its impact on their development. We will explore the experiences, perceptions, beliefs, and behaviors that may present challenges in development. We will discuss practical, trauma-informed, outcome-driven strategies that improve the outcomes.
