More than twenty percent of adults—or 1 in 5—experience a behavioral health disorder every year in the United States. Behavioral health disorders can be challenging to identify, screen for and treat, especially in rural communities and the supply of behavioral health providers often cannot meet the demand for services. This webinar highlighted state policy options to increase access to rural behavioral health providers, including leveraging telebehavioral health, considering licensing policies and compacts, utilizing emerging health professionals to address workforce gaps, and examining scope of practice policies for behavioral health professionals.

A collaborative community process to define a town by what it offers the people who live there is the short way to describe the work of placemaking. This digital toolkit from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the University of Kentucky’s Community and Economic Development Initiative includes examples of rural placemaking projects along with technical assistance providers, funders, and guides to resources.

This webinar provided RCORP Psychostimulant Support program grantees with the tools to complete a behavioral health disparities impact statement, to support efforts to address populations in rural communities that have historically suffered from poorer health outcomes and health inequities as a part of the prevention, treatment and recovery of psychostimulants.

More than 600 people registered and 300 attended an information session on Thursday, June 30, 2022 about first-of-its kind funding to address rural homelessness from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. This webinar will introduce the newest RCORP program cohorts to the RCOEs, Fletcher Group, University of Rochester, and University of Vermont. These three cooperative agreements are charged with supporting the identification, translation, dissemination, and implementation of evidence-based programs and best practices, in addition to providing specialized TA to RCORP recipients and other rural providers.

Providers are essential partners in care and have a very important role in reducing the various types of stigmas experienced by those with or recovering from substance use disorder (SUD) and their families; becoming an ally is the first step. Allyship includes a set of beliefs, attitudes, and actions; we will explore a variety of steps that can lead to greater empathy and better outcomes for clients, families, and communities.

Each of the toolkit's six modules contains information that communities can apply to develop a rural health program, regardless of the specific health topic the program addresses. The toolkit also links to issue-specific toolkits for more in-depth information.
