More people are dying from overdose now than at any point in history. Individuals learned about three innovative communication campaigns that challenge stigma, center people who use drugs, and build support for harm reduction as a lifesaving strategy to reduce overdose deaths.

This study links parental incarceration to adolescent substance use in rural communities. The data is state-specific and pulls from the 2019 Minnesota Student Survey in which adolescents self-reported experiences. Results concluded that parental incarceration was associated with higher substance use and expanded prevention and intervention strategies for adolescents could help reduce the rates.

Background: Racial/ethnic disparities in the use of opioids to treat pain disorders have been previously reported in the emergency department (ED). Further research is needed to better evaluate the impact race/ethnicity may have on the use of opioids in adolescents for the management of pain disorders in the ED.
