More than 600 people registered and 300 attended an information session on Thursday, June 30, 2022 about first-of-its kind funding to address rural homelessness from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Providers are essential partners in care and have a very important role in reducing the various types of stigmas experienced by those with or recovering from substance use disorder (SUD) and their families; becoming an ally is the first step. Allyship includes a set of beliefs, attitudes, and actions; we will explore a variety of steps that can lead to greater empathy and better outcomes for clients, families, and communities.

This webinar will provide an overview of racial and ethnic minority members of rural communities; describe the relationship between social determinants of health, health disparities, health equity, and rural racial and ethnic minority populations; and propose characteristics for an effective engagement and collaboration plan for working with these populations. The presenter will discuss strategies for enhancing engaging and collaborating with rural racial and ethnic minority populations and review available resources and tools.
