The RCORP Data Coordinator meeting series began in July 2022, hosted by RCORP-Evaluation in partnership with RCORP-TA. These meetings provide an opportunity for the JBS RCORP team to work with Data Coordinators and other consortium staff to address topics impacting data quality, reporting and utilization. Discussion in these meetings helps to inform additional webinar sessions and resources, developed to meet grantee needs.

Researchers used data from electronic license renewals in 2021 to examine what factors affect the likelihood of providing medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder. Physicians and nurse practitioners who were younger, practiced in a public or community health center, and offered a sliding fee scale in their practice had a greater likelihood of providing MAT.

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is the use of medications, combined with counseling, to treat substance use disorders. Research has proven the effectiveness of MAT and addiction treatment experts endorse it, but a variety of barriers have prevented the widespread use of MAT. These include a lack of financing for medication, insufficient organizational infrastructure to deliver medication, state and county funding and regulatory obstacles, physician training and certification, staff and client resistance, and community attitudes.

The report Financing Peer Recovery Support: Opportunities to Enhance the Substance Use Disorder Workforce was prepared for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Center for Financing Reform and Innovation (CFRI) and provides background history of the development of Peer Recovery (PR), including an overview of the current landscape of PR Programs. This report also provides a description of the variation in peer recovery rates, supervision, credentialing, and substance use disorder vs mental health.

Discharge planning is recognized as an essential component of psychiatric care. Patients released from inpatient facilities can reasonably expect to be given prescriptions for needed medications (or the medications themselves) and a referral to a mental health professional who can provide follow-up care. Do the same expectations apply to correctional facilities, which today house so many people with serious mental illnesses?
