On January 18, 2024, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the Innovation in Behavioral Health (IBH) Model. IBH is focused on improving quality of care and behavioral and physical health outcomes for Medicaid and Medicare populations with moderate to severe mental health conditions and substance use disorder (SUD).

October 10, 2023 is World Mental Health Day! This is an opportunity for everyone to understand that mental health is a basic human right for everyone. Improving knowledge of this area and raising awareness can help achieve that goal. The World Health Organization has provided key messages, campaign materials, videos, and other information on mental health to spread for World Mental Health Day, and every day of the year.

The University of Rochester, a RCORP-Rural Center of Excellence on SUD Prevention, has 988 Lifeline posters available for download on their website. The national 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline was launched in July 2023 and provides a way for individuals experiencing a suicidal, mental health, or substance use disorder crisis to receive urgent help 24/7. Spreading awareness of the 988 Lifeline is important as it can help residents in rural areas obtain treatment and help quickly.

The Center of Excellence for Integrated Health Solutions (funded by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and operated by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing) and the School-Based Health Alliance now has a guide to help mental health organizations have successful partnerships with schools as a way to help the mental health and substance use care for K-12 students. The guide provides information to consider, as well as resource recommendations.
