An analysis of emergency department data shows a rise in nonfatal drug overdoses for youth under 15, from 2016 to 2019. Overdoses among the youngest kids aged 0-14 are relatively rate. However, risk increases with age, as the rate of all drug overdoses among youth aged 15-24 was more than double that of 11-14-year olds. Stimulant overdoses increased for all age groups, while heroin decreased for 15-24-year olds.

Whereas outpatient treatment with medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) is evidence based, there is a large network of inpatient facilities in the US that are reimbursed by commercial insurers and do not typically offer MOUD. Background As the opioid overdose crisis persists and take-home naloxone (THN) programmes expand, it is important that the intervention is targeted towards those most likely to use it. We examined THN program participants to 1) describe those that return for refills, specifically those that reported multiple use (supersavers) and 2) to determine what rescuer characteristics were associated with higher rates of THN use.
Methods This study included a cohort of consenting THN recipients from June 2014- June 2021 who completed initial and refill questionnaires from a widespread program in Norway. Adjusted logistic regression was used to explore associations with higher rates of THN use. ‘Super-savers’ reported three or more THN uses.

This handbook is intended to address this particular set of workplace issues- namely those that arise from experiences of loss, grief and trauma. These issues can surface within the workplace itself, or can be imported into the work setting from workers’ personal lives. This handbook will be useful for managers, supervisors and human resource specialists who are interested in developing their understanding of how the very real issues associated with loss, grief and trauma can be tackled when they show up in work settings. This handbook is a blend of theory and practice, and can be used as a resource for building effective policies and practical responses to the complexities of managing grief, loss and bereavement in the workplace.

The suggested tools and resources herein address the need for agencies to support frontline service providers following exposure to an overdose fatality. Frontline service providers may include any staff members that interact directly with populations that are at greater risk for experiencing overdose. The suggestions throughout the document should be implemented in keeping with agency-based policies and procedures for staff support. Introducing these strategies into the workplace can foster greater well-being among those staff members most vulnerable to trauma and distress.
The goal of these suggestions is to promote well-being in the workplace for those most vulnerable to trauma, stress and grief. To achieve this, outlined below are principles for agencies to incorporate into their organization, how to acknowledge death in the moment, approaches to coping with strong emotions, the importance of building a support system, and the process of grief.

This Technical Briefing provides a description of Peer-to-Peer Distribution of Naloxone (P2PN). This is based on six case studies of pioneers of P2PN; three from the UK and three international examples that inform the guidance in this Technical Briefing. This document will inform and be extended following a pilot of P2PN in four sites in England in 2019. These will be supported by small grants from EuroNPUD. The learning from this pilot will help test the model and peer education approach promoted in this briefing.
