The report Financing Peer Recovery Support: Opportunities to Enhance the Substance Use Disorder Workforce was prepared for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Center for Financing Reform and Innovation (CFRI) and provides background history of the development of Peer Recovery (PR), including an overview of the current landscape of PR Programs. This report also provides a description of the variation in peer recovery rates, supervision, credentialing, and substance use disorder vs mental health.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has published the new resource "Counseling Approaches To Promote Recovery From Problematic Substance Use and Related Issues". This Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) provides guidance to counselors, administrators, and supervisors about recovery-oriented services, supports, and care, allowing them to better serve individuals in or seeking recovery from problematic substance use.

Two reports are now available from Fors Marsh, a research and communications firm who's reports work to highlight system problems like SUD. The "Road Map for Advancing a Recovery-Ready Nation" report examines recovery research and covers issues such as support services, housing, employment, workforce, stigma, etc. The "2022 Workplace Recovery Survey Report" covers background and understanding recovery in the workplace, policies, culture, experiences, and much more.

The North Carolina Emergency Department (ED) Peer Support Program enables participating North Carolina hospitals to embed certified peer support specialists in their emergency departments to connect patients presenting with opioid overdose to treatment, recovery, resources and harm reduction supports. This guide is a tool for introducing an ED peer support program in a hospital setting.

Researchers looked at records for 917 patients who engaged with a peer recovery coach via telehealth after discharge from emergency departments for opioid use. The investigation focused on one Indiana-based hospital system that included six hospitals located in cities and seven that had rural Critical Access Hospital designations.

This panel featured diverse faces and voices representing a variety of recovery experience including elements of medications for opioid use disorder, alcohol-free recreation, harm reduction mutual aid, outdoor hobbies, yoga and meditation, recovery-supportive housing, collegiate recovery, 12-step mutual aid, and more.

Recovery housing and a social recovery approach offer a broad, holistic, multifaceted strategy for rural or urban communities.
