The 2020 National Drug Threat Assessment (NDTA) is a comprehensive assessment of the threat posed to the United States by the trafficking and abuse of illicit drugs, the diversion and abuse of licit drugs, and the laundering of proceeds generated through illicit drug sales. It also addresses the role domestic groups, including organized violent gangs, serve in domestic drug trafficking. The most widely trafficked drugs are discussed in terms of their availability, consumption and overdose related deaths, production and cultivation, transportation, and distribution.

The Behavioral Health Data Learning Collaborative presentation will introduce goals of understanding data and data sharing, use of indicators and data sources, and data driven programming and quality improvement. Open discussion will follow each presentation.

Fueled by misinformation, fentanyl panic has harmed public health through complicating overdose rescue while rationalizing hyper-punitive criminal laws, wasteful expenditures, and proposals to curtail vital access to pain pharmacotherapy. To assess misinformation about health risk from casual contact with fentanyl, we characterize its diffusion and excess visibility in mainstream and social media.

This cross-sectional study included all counties and county-equivalent divisions in the US in 2016. Data on racial/ethnic population distribution were derived from the American Community Survey, and data on locations of facilities providing methadone and buprenorphine were obtained from Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration databases.

We know from RCORP grantees, first responders, hospitals, people who use drugs, the media and other allies that many communities are seeing spikes in overdose (OD) events and deaths since the onset of COVID-19. Sometimes these deaths come at alarming levels because of stretched public health infrastructure and the time it takes to turn around data. The webinar took place on May 26, 2020.
