The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), in the Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs, released Data on Maternal Health and Pregnancy Outcomes from Prisons and Jails: Results from a Feasibility Study. The study examined the availability and quality of data, the respondent burden, and the challenges of collecting data on the health and health care of pregnant women in custody at the federal, state, local and tribal levels. BJS will use the findings of this study to help determine the best strategies for implementing national data collections in correctional settings.

Disparities in access to naloxone exist and organizations are working to remove some of these barriers by utilizing innovative methods such as vending machines to distribute the overdose medication. This provides life-saving medication in an accessible way to everyone, although laws vary state to state on the distribution of these tools. This report provides information on the results of the Cherokee Nation Health Services' (CNHS) hepatitis C elimination program 5 years after implementation. The report finds that the program had success with 99% of patients who completed treatment.

This publication highlights the Coordinated Opioid Recovery (CORE) Program in three Florida counties. The program integrates a new facet of Emergency Medical Services known as community paramedics. Since its launch in 2022 in Palm Beach County, Florida, CORE has expanded to include 12 additional Florida counties and takes a coordinated approach to recovery for individuals with SUD.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) released results of the 2022 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH). The NSDUH provides information on substance use and mental health rates in the United States with data on the self-reported use of tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drugs; substance use disorders; mental health conditions; and suicidal thoughts and behaviors. SAMSHA also released a high-level brief of the report with infographics.
