Pharmacists can play an important role in improving access to medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD), especially for individuals living in rural areas where health care workforce shortages are pervasive. Learn how pharmacists can provide Medication Administration Services (MAS) and establish Collaborative Practice Agreements (CPA) in coordination with one or more treating health care providers.

As states seek new tools to meet the needs of individuals with substance use disorder (SUD) and opioid use disorder, federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) offer unique resources and examples for developing integrated and cost-effective health care services for complex and chronic conditions. The National Academy for State Health Policy developed this toolkit to share innovations, resources, and lessons learned from five state teams (AL, IL, SD, VA, and WI) that are working to strengthen the capacity of their FQHCs to deliver SUD care

The current study examined the accuracy of sensory discernment strategies by measuring study participants’ descriptions of the last opioid injected and checked with a fentanyl test strip (FTS) by that test's positive/negative result. The primary objective was to determine associations between FTS results and descriptions of the illi it opioid's physical appearance and physiological effects.

The 2020 National Drug Threat Assessment (NDTA) is a comprehensive assessment of the threat posed to the United States by the trafficking and abuse of illicit drugs, the diversion and abuse of licit drugs, and the laundering of proceeds generated through illicit drug sales. It also addresses the role domestic groups, including organized violent gangs, serve in domestic drug trafficking. The most widely trafficked drugs are discussed in terms of their availability, consumption and overdose related deaths, production and cultivation, transportation, and distribution.

Fueled by misinformation, fentanyl panic has harmed public health through complicating overdose rescue while rationalizing hyper-punitive criminal laws, wasteful expenditures, and proposals to curtail vital access to pain pharmacotherapy. To assess misinformation about health risk from casual contact with fentanyl, we characterize its diffusion and excess visibility in mainstream and social media.

Stimulant intoxication, withdrawal, and psychosis have accepted and established treatment strategies. Several lifesaving harm reduction interventions/services are available. There are no Food and Drug Administration-approved medications for treatment of stimulant use disorder, although several are promising. Behavioral treatment, especially the use of contingency management (and other approaches with supportive evidence), has by far the best evidence of effectiveness. The presenter reviewed topics of importance to clinicians treating individuals with stimulant use disorder.

Joined this panel of former RCORP-Planning grantees as they shared their lessons learned and how they hit the ground running as they completed Planning and embarked on Implementation. Heard from panelists who received Implementation funding as well as those who were able to move forward without dedicated Implementation funding.
