The Opioid Response Network is making available a new dental curriculum on SBIRT (screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment), an evidence-based approach to managing patients with or at risk of developing a substance use disorder (SUD).
The curriculum was developed for dentists by the ORN grant through a collaboration with the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry and the Division on Substance Use Disorders, Columbia University Irving Medical Center/NYSPI.

Addiction Policy Forum, in partnership with Justice Community Opioid Innovation Network (JCOIN) and the National Judicial Task Force to Examine State Courts’ Response to Mental Illness, have released a new online course to help educate judges and court staff on the FDA-approved medications to treat opioid use disorder and their effectiveness for people involved with the criminal justice system.
The course is self-paced and takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. The course aims to prepare participants with the knowledge and information about what substance use disorder treatment involves, the differences between the types of medications used to treat opioid use disorder, and how those medications work.

This handbook is intended to address this particular set of workplace issues- namely those that arise from experiences of loss, grief and trauma. These issues can surface within the workplace itself, or can be imported into the work setting from workers’ personal lives. This handbook will be useful for managers, supervisors and human resource specialists who are interested in developing their understanding of how the very real issues associated with loss, grief and trauma can be tackled when they show up in work settings. The Providers Clinical Support System (PCSS) Mentoring Program support is recommended for clinicians who are contemplating or have recently begun prescribing MOUD and would like additional support. PCSS offers three tiers of service at no cost to the recipient: (1) a discussion forum, (2) the ability to submit a clinical question through the PCSS website, and (3) one-on-one mentoring.

Like all professions, the addictions treatment field is faced with the challenges of employee substance use and abuse and their impact on retention of quality staff. Because the addictions field employees a disproportionate number of individuals – by recent estimates close to half of the treatment workforce – in recovery, the field faces particular retention challenges. This toolkit provides meaningful and practical guidance to the problem of substance misuse among addictions professionals.
