The 2024 RCORP Data Coordinator meeting series began in May 2024, hosted by RCORP-Evaluation (Customer Value Partners), in partnership with RCORP-TA (JBS International). The purpose of this meeting series is to present a deep dive into all aspects of PIMS data collection with an overview of data requirements, data collection, and addressing common data collection challenges with hands-on best practices. This series is geared towards Data Coordinators; however, anyone involved in RCORP grant data collection is welcome to join. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Minority Health provided a brief in November 2023 assessing whether and how rates of substance use and substance use disorder (SUD) among adults (ages 18 and older) differ by race and ethnicity.

This study links parental incarceration to adolescent substance use in rural communities. The data is state-specific and pulls from the 2019 Minnesota Student Survey in which adolescents self-reported experiences. Results concluded that parental incarceration was associated with higher substance use and expanded prevention and intervention strategies for adolescents could help reduce the rates.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health have joined with two philanthropic organizations with experience in minority communities – Well-being and Equity (WE) in the World and Well Being In the Nation (WIN) Network – to collaborate on guidelines for what it will take to bring health equity to rural areas.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) at the National Institutes of Health has reported that overdose mortality more than tripled for pregnant and postpartum women from 2018 to 2021. Findings from the study referenced by NIDA show that there are significant barriers which can obstruct care for this population living with substance use disorders.
