Substance use is a major health issue among individuals in custody, and for these individuals, withdrawal from substances can be life-threatening. Jurisdictions have a pressing responsibility to save lives by implementing policies and protocol that align with legal, regulatory, and clinical standards related to appropriate withdrawal management. Recently released Guidelines for Managing Substance Withdrawal in Jails sets forth best clinical practices and actionable guidance for jails. This presentation discussed readiness for implementation, key components of implementation, and solutions for implementation in local communities and jails.

-Assessed readiness for implementing a comprehensive and appropriate multidisciplinary approach to withdrawal management.
-Discussed action steps for building community support.
-Identified resources for training and technical assistance to implement the Guidelines.

During this webinar, Claudia Jasso, Chief Development Officer for RCORP Implementation grantee, Amistades, Inc. and Janet Ojeda, JBS International Technical Expert Lead will present an overview of the unique cultural context, core beliefs, and value systems that should be at the heart of understanding and engaging with Latino populations. Presenters will discuss how racial inequity, assimilation, risk factors, and historical and immigration trauma have created a landscape where there is a critical need for person centered, culturally respectful and relevant mental health and SUD/OUD supports and service delivery for Latino people. This presentation will focus on the relationship between trauma and substance use as it relates to treatment for women, as well as a discussion of impactful trauma-informed and gender-responsive interventions. The evidence-based interventions will be based on Seeking Safety and Finding Your Best Self models, both of which are present-focused and easily implemented in any treatment setting.
