This presentation shared the experience of the Lenawee Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition’s evolution and experiences in the HRSA RCORP Planning and Implementation grants resulting in built capacities to implement robust strategic plans in response to Substance Use Disorder and Opioid Use Disorder within Lenawee County.

The opioid epidemic is a result of a complex system of varied and interrelated factors. This webinar will introduce a systems thinking approach and tools to address complex public health challenges. The webinar will provide an overview of systems tools and describe opportunities to develop systems further thinking capacity for application to grantees’ local opioid response.

Drug overdose is a continuing epidemic that claimed the lives of over 67,000 Americans in 2018. Opioids, either alone or in combination with other substances, were responsible for approximately 70% of these deaths. Many of these lost lives and other opioid-related harms are preventable through the timely administration of the opioid reversal drug naloxone and, where appropriate, other follow-up care.

This session will walk through the strategic plan template provided by JBS International in the Grantee Onboarding Packet for HRSA RCORP-Planning Grantees. During this workshop style webinar, facilitators will walk grantees through the template section by section, discussing the required elements and providing examples of each section. Grantees will learn how to use their data to determine problem statements, goals, objectives, and outcomes for their strategic plan as well as how to include metrics to successfully track their progress.

The opioid epidemic is the result of a complex system of varied and interrelated factors. The Georgia Health Policy Center’s Opioid Systems Map was presented as a case study for the creation and application of systems mapping in local communities. The webinar fostered a holistic view of the opioid epidemic and described opportunities to further develop systems thinking capacity for application to grantees’ local opioid response.
