Two reports are now available from Fors Marsh, a research and communications firm who's reports work to highlight system problems like SUD. The "Road Map for Advancing a Recovery-Ready Nation" report examines recovery research and covers issues such as support services, housing, employment, workforce, stigma, etc. The "2022 Workplace Recovery Survey Report" covers background and understanding recovery in the workplace, policies, culture, experiences, and much more.

With a large number of individuals incarcerated in the United States, there is a growing problem with the effects it can have on a person's health. The National Institute for Health Care Management (NIHCM) has provided an infographic detailing the effects, health conditions, and growing inequality people live with while incarcerated.

Contingency management has empirical support but limited implementation. This report provides an overview of contingency management, barriers of implementation, and recommendation on how to overcome the challenges of implementation. Evidence-based treatment for people with stimulant use disorder is important as the U.S. has been experiencing an overdose crisis resulting in overdose deaths.

The Bureau of Justice Assistance and the National Institute of Corrections published the Guidelines for Managing Substance Withdrawal in Jails: A Tool for Local Government Officials, Jail Administrators, Correctional Officers, and Health Care Professionals to help increase access to evidence-based treatment for individuals with SUD and those who are at risk for overdose. There is a high prevalence of SUD among individuals who are incarcerated. Withdrawal while incarcerated is less discussed, but still poses a risk for individuals. The guidelines were created to help jail administrators protect the health and rights of people incarcerated.

The Health Affairs Forefront is a way for individuals in the health care industry to "catch up on the ideas that thought leaders and peers are exploring in the field". Recently, contingency management (CM) was discussed, including ways to make the behavioral intervention available to more people. The discussion included what CM is, why it is not more widely available, training considerations, and recommendations on how Federal policy could change to increase the availability.

Corrections-Based Responses to the Opioid Epidemic: Lessons from New York State’s Overdose Education and Naloxone Distribution Program focuses on the efforts of NYS to implement an overdose education and naloxone distribution program that teaches all soon-to-be released people in state correctional facilities—as well as their families and corrections staff—about the risks of opioid use, trains them in the use of naloxone, and offers it to them free of charge at release.

At least 95 percent of individuals in state prisons will eventually return to communities. In fact, in a typical year more than half a million people do so, with many more coming from jails. A disproportionate share of these individuals have one or more chronic illnesses, including more than half who met the criteria for a non-alcohol and nicotine-related substance use disorder from 2007 to 2009, according to the latest available data.
