The Reagan-Udall Foundation partnered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the "Mitigating Risks from Human Xylazine Exposure" virtual and in-person webinar that occurred early October 2023. This public meeting explored real-world experiences and scientific evidence on emerging data trends for human xylazine exposure and examined concrete strategies for drug development and clinical research that directly supports the mitigation and reduction of risks associated with human exposure to xylazine. The meeting materials, recordings, and slides are now available for viewing.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released the Calendar Year (CY) 2023 Physician Fee Schedule. This rule makes policy updates which may increase accessibility of behavioral health services and telehealth services in rural areas. CMS subject matter experts from the Hospital and Ambulatory Policy Group (HAPG) presented on the behavioral health and telehealth updates in the rule during the webinar held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022.

The webinar held by NASTAD on October 26, 2022, 4:00-5:30pm featured a dynamic discussion on integrating harm reduction principles and practices, including naloxone distribution, safe disposal, and harm reduction supply access, within the community health care setting. Health centers across the country that offer these services as part of comprehensive care shared their experiences and the ways that service expansion can contribute to engagement and care access.

The JBS evaluation team will review and provide guidance on the PIMS measures that are most problematic for grantees and the new PIMS measures that are pending OMB approval. This webinar described the unique role of peer support specialists in the CDC-funded pilot project Reducing Overdose After Release from Incarceration (ROAR). The ROAR pilot combines provision of medication for opioid use disorder with support from Oregon Certified Recovery Mentors (CRMs) to reduce overdose risk among women released from prison.

Like all professions, the addictions treatment field is faced with the challenges of employee substance use and abuse and their impact on retention of quality staff. Because the addictions field employees a disproportionate number of individuals – by recent estimates close to half of the treatment workforce – in recovery, the field faces particular retention challenges. This toolkit provides meaningful and practical guidance to the problem of substance misuse among addictions professionals.
