A planning committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine organized and conducted a two-day virtual public workshop that brought together data experts, program implementers and evaluators, and other key interested parties to explore data collection efforts, evidence gaps, and research needs on harm reduction for people who use drugs (PWUD).

Illuminate Colorado, an RCORP Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) grantee, and partners presented on their Tough as a Mother campaign. Tough as a Mother is a statewide campaign launched in May 2020 and has been working to decrease the stigma around maternal substance use disorder. The Illuminate Colorado Team provided an overview of their campaign and how others can access the shared resources, followed by time for Q&A.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released the Calendar Year (CY) 2023 Physician Fee Schedule. This rule makes policy updates which may increase accessibility of behavioral health services and telehealth services in rural areas. CMS subject matter experts from the Hospital and Ambulatory Policy Group (HAPG) presented on the behavioral health and telehealth updates in the rule during the webinar held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022.

The webinar held by NASTAD on October 26, 2022, 4:00-5:30pm featured a dynamic discussion on integrating harm reduction principles and practices, including naloxone distribution, safe disposal, and harm reduction supply access, within the community health care setting. Health centers across the country that offer these services as part of comprehensive care shared their experiences and the ways that service expansion can contribute to engagement and care access.

Communities across the U.S. face an array of complex health equity challenges, including meeting the health care needs of people experiencing homelessness, reducing poverty, and improving care for rural populations. Addressing these issues requires robust collaboration and cross-sector data sharing to better understand how community members access health care.

More than 600 people registered and 300 attended an information session on Thursday, June 30, 2022 about first-of-its kind funding to address rural homelessness from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. This webinar described the unique role of peer support specialists in the CDC-funded pilot project Reducing Overdose After Release from Incarceration (ROAR). The ROAR pilot combines provision of medication for opioid use disorder with support from Oregon Certified Recovery Mentors (CRMs) to reduce overdose risk among women released from prison.
